Masks being made locally to help with shortage

Kathy Jones of Columbia says several members of Joyful Hearts Quilt Guild are making cloth masks. If someone needs masks, contact her at 270-250-4216. These are not the surgical masks but we are being encouraged to wear them as some protection. She writes, "we have two sizes - 10 inch and 8 inch. She says they are not charging, just doing their civic duty.

Cora Jessie of Sulphur Well, KY in Metcalfe County writes that her "sister Anita London Bass is making masks non stop. She doesn’t have a price on them, however, she is a widow and on a fixed income and could use a donation for the masks. The masks are very well made and very pretty." She can be reached at 270-590-3948 or cory@scrtc.com.

Seamstress Debbie Burris is making face masks in Adair County. She says anyone can message her on Facebook or call 270-250-1277. She has donated many. Going forward, to pay for supplies, her charge would be $4 each if she furnishes fabric, or $2 each if fabric is provided. She adds, "stay safe everyone!"

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says masks should:
- Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
- Be secured with ties or ear loops
- Include multiple layers of fabric
- Allow for breathing without restriction
- Be able to be laundered and machine dried without damage or change to shape
