Commentary: Appliances are unexpected snag for vision impaired By Samantha Sinclair My name is Samantha Sinclair. I am 23 years old, from Russell County, Kentucky. I am visually impaired, and have been since birth. Praise God, I do have pretty good vision in my right eye, my left is mostly light and shadows, but more clearer than it used to be thank God! As I have became an adult, I realize how inconvenient it is to use so many appliances! My wish for appliance manufacturers is that they would consider taking the extra time and effort to add Braille to their appliances such as stoves, washers, dryers, to make it more accessible for us. I read somewhere, and I definitely agree, stoves are the most an accessible for the visually impaired. This is definitely true, especially the flat top stoves! It's very hard for us to put our pots and pans directly on the burners, not to mention the settings for the oven aren't raised at all, therefore unless someone comes and labels our stove we cannot use it on our own. My goal is for people to realize this is important to us, our independence! There are other things that I would like people to understand as well, but right now this is my goal to reach manufacturers to not only help myself but millions of others like myself, some of which have no vision and getting closer to what they are trying to see which serves no purpose! God bless thanks for reading. This story was posted on 2020-03-22 10:22:25
