Phillip Coffey writes of his Aunt Margie and family Margie Coffey is honored for her hard work and dedication to her family, to the genealogy department of the Adair County Public Library and as an active member of the Adair County Retired Teachers Association. By Phillip Coffey, nephew and recipient of Aunt Margie's giving, caring love On the 68th Anniversary of Aunt Margie Burris Coffey and my late Uncle Raymond Coffey, I'm thinking of them and also of Aunt Margie's 89th birthday coming up on February 28th. They were married February 21, 1952 on my elder sister Margaret's third birthday. I don't think it set too well with the three year old for a spell. Margie had taken her Dad's youngest Brother from the brood and she feared she might loose the attentive spell she had cast on him to another. Of course Margaret soon learned this wasn't happening. In fact she was gaining an Aunt that would spoil her also. Before they were united in the sacred ceremony Margie had already begun to intermingle with the Coffey family at a large degree. Prior to the unification, Margie Burris lived with Mom and Dad while teaching at Keltner School for a year. Uncle Raymond and Aunt Margie are/were a true blessing to myself and the extended family as well. They also spoiled myself. I recall before I began to attend Keltner School with a promise of being served ice cream for breakfast I would gladly spend the night with them. (What child wouldn't with that enticement?) Looking back I probably held back for the ice cream 'perk' before I made my final decision. I have learned a lot from Aunt Margie and Uncle Raymond and other kin as well. They have taught me by their example(s) how to conduct myself and what is really important in life. I have not always followed their teachings. I have been truly blessed with a large extended family on my Paternal and Maternal side. Mom was one of ten siblings. Dad was one of eleven, ten of whom I knew who reached adulthood. There were about forty Aunts and Uncles in the mix with the marriages. There are two that remain - Mom and Aunt Margie. They are people that I treasure highly. Aunt Margie and Mom have led exemplary lives with all their joys and struggles. Mom is always upbeat even though she has short memory issues. She smiles through it all. Aunt Margie does as well even though she is having a lot of medical issues. I think Mom and Aunt Margie have a lot in common. With perhaps a touch of bias they are two of the most giving, caring people I have known. 'To others' seems/seemed to be their creed.
