Rep. Bam Carney update, 58 days in ICU, improving

John Chowning sends this update on Rep. John Bam Carney from his brother Mark reflecting how things were Tuesday evening, February 18, 2020:

"Bam continues to improve in lots of areas. While he still can't lift his arms or legs he is now able to move his left arm and hand 6-8 inches in a left or right direction. He has gotten much better at holding his head up.

He had a great round of physical therapy today sitting on the side of the bed for 26 minutes and while sitting there did lots of exercises with the hands, feet, arms, legs and shoulders.

His voice is getting stronger and he is getting more comfortable with the speaking valve. Hearing his voice is still a really big deal for us and others!

He has had a good day today as far as anxiety issues go and we are indeed thankful for the prayers you have prayed in reference to this.

58 days in ICU can be tough on the mind as well as the body. The primary concerns are the same as last week-infection numbers and the healing wound. White blood count was at 23 this morning. The infectious disease doctor continues to work hard on the case and is optimistic that they will make progress.

They are doing another CT scan of the belly today to make sure nothing new has popped up. The surgeon plans to take him down to the operating room and clean around and inside the wound later this week. Hopefully this helps with wound healing process and infection numbers.

We continue to be thankful and humbled by the support and encouragement we are receiving from so many as we go down this road with Bam. Of course the most important thing we give thanks for is God's hand in all of this. Thank you so much for the prayers you have lifted and are continuing to pray for Bam, mom and the rest of us as we go down this road. #God'sGloryoverBam, #BounceBackBam.
