LWC Basketball hits the road tomorrow to face Shawnee State

The Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team (RV) and women's basketball team (No. 14) continue conference play tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, February 8, 2020, on the road facing Shawnee State (Ohio) beginning at 1pmCT with the women's matchup followed by the men's matchup at 3pmCT.



The No. 14-ranked Blue Raider women's basketball team (20-4, 9-2 MSC) took care of (RV) Pikeville (Ky.) on the road by a final score of 68-55 in their last outing Thursday night.

Reagan Turner leads Lindsey Wilson in scoring this season with an 18.2 points per game average, which currently ranks second best in the MSC. Turner also rolls with the team lead in assists per game (3.0), with her season-high of seven assists coming on Feb. 1 against Life (Ga.). DeAsia Outlaw carries heavy weight on both ends of the floor for the Blue Raiders, holding team leads in rebounds per game (7.5), steals per game (2.4), and blocks per game (2.0). J'Nayah Hall and Jynea Harris each average double-figure scoring this season, helping lead LWC to a 43.1% shooting average from the field.

The Shawnee State women's basketball team (22-3, 9-2 MSC) took down No. 2-ranked Campbellsville (Ky.) on Thursday night by a final score of 103-101 in double overtime.

This season, the Bears rank third in the NAIA DI in field goal percentage (46%) and total scoring offense (2,129 total points), led by Bailey Cummins who leads the MSC with an 18.6 points per game average. Cummins had an explosive outing against the No. 2-ranked Tigers on Thursday night, garnering a double-double with 39 points and 10 assists while hitting the game winning shot with four seconds remaining in double overtime. Alongside Cummins, Carson Roney executed a double-double in the win with 23 points and 10 rebounds on 10-of-14 shooting off the bench. The Bears currently ride a four-game winning streak heading into Saturday's matchup.

The receiving votes Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team (16-9, 5-6 MSC) lost their last game to Pikeville 95-64 at the UPIKE gym on Thursday night.

Reece Brooks serves as the anchor for the Blue Raiders as he holds team leads in points per game (19.7), assists per game (5.2), and steals per game (1.6). Brooks currently ranks fourth in the NAIA DI in total scoring (494) and total three-pointers made (72) while shooting 45% from the field. Matthew Eldridge is currently shooting 47% from the field, while leading LWC in rebounds per game (6.8) and blocks per game (1.0). As a team, Lindsey Wilson ranks second in the NAIA DI in total three-pointers made (274) led by Brooks who has connected on 72 this season.

The Shawnee State men's basketball team (18-7, 5-5 MSC) escaped with a victory in overtime over Campbellsville by a final of 73-71 on Thursday night.

The Bears play this season has been highlighted by the dynamic duo of Kyree Elder and EJ Onu. Elder leads the offensive scoring attack with an 18.5 points per game average on 47% shooting from the field. On defense, SSU ranks first in the NAIA DI in total blocks (180) and blocks per game (7.2) thanks in part to Onu who has served as the top rim protector in the NAIA DI this season. Onu has notched a staggering 5.6 blocks per game average and 141 total blocks this season.

Earlier this season on Jan. 9, the women's matchup between the Bears and Blue Raiders was won by Lindsey Wilson by a final score of 87-77 at Biggers Sports Center. The men's matchup was all Shawnee State, as the Bears took down LWC by a final of 95-59.

Live video and live stats will be available for both games. The women's matchup is set to begin at 1pmCT followed by the men's matchup at 3pmCT at the Waller Gymnasium in Portsmouth, Ohio.
