LWC Wrestling finishes in 6th at NAIA National Duals

Louisville, KY - The No. 7-ranked Lindsey Wilson wrestling team finished in sixth place during the final day of the NAIA National Duals on Saturday.

Lindsey Wilson opened the day with a 27-12 win over No. 12 Providence (MO) before falling to Mid-South Conference foe No. 3 Campbellsville (KY) 19-18.

Cagen Wallace (No. 13 at 125) and Sam Bacon opened the match with two straight decision victories for the Blue Raiders. Wallace downed Eli Walston 5-3 as Bacon defeated Clayton Gilliam 5-2.

Providence answered back to take a one-point lead at 7-6 after picking up a major decision and a decision victory at 141 and 149-pounds, respectively.

Lindsey Wilson would break the dual wide open when they were able to string together four straight match wins. At 157-pounds Zane Brown recorded an 11-1 major decision over Boone Giulo (No. 20 at 157). Derrick Smallwood (No. 2 at 157) again wrestled up a weight class to produced a 5-3 decision win over Jordan Komac (No. 10 at 165).

Joe Koontz picked up six points for the Blue Raiders just 26 seconds into his match against Alex Quick after a quick pin. Trevor Lawson (No. 5 at 184) put LWC ahead 22-7 when he produced a tech fall over Hayden Schrull (No. 20 at 184).

Providence scored their final points of the match with a technical fall win at 197-pounds before Brandon Reed (No. 1 at HW) closed things out with a 7-5 decision over Justin Harbison.

Cagen Wallace (No. 13 at 125) battled his way to a 5-3 decision win over Jordan Martinez (No. 8 at 125) but three straight Campbellsville wins would spot the Tigers a 12-3 advantage early.

Derrick Smallwood (No. 2 at 157) got Lindsey Wilson back in the win column with his 15-7 major decision over Tristan Sellmer (No. 18 at 157). Joe Koontz then upset Chandler Woenker (No. 12 at 165) on an 8-5 decision.

Campbellsville would score a major decision at 174-pounds and a decision at 197-pounds to total 19 points for the match. Kohl Dodd (No. 18 at 184) defeated David Richardson (No. 19 at 184) on a 2-1 decision.

Campbellsville forfeited the heavyweight bout to take a 19-18 win over the Blue Raiders. Lindsey Wilson was administered a penalty point take away early in the match.

The Blue Raiders are back in action at the MVC Invite next Friday and Saturday in Marshall, Missouri.
