High winds and thunderstorms left their marks

By Linda Waggener

The severe thunderstorm watch issued Saturday, January 11, 2020 for the afternoon, didn't prepare travelers around the Public Square in Columbia for the incident between the Chamber of Commerce and Walker Real Estate buildings that closed Burkesville Street for many hours.

Burkesville Street from Stotts Construction to the Public Square had to be blocked off Saturday from the noon hour until after dark due to a power line pole damaged in the 40-60 mph winds. Traffic heading onto the Square was routed from Downey Eye Clinic to Reed Street just past SaveALot to Jamestown Street.

Power was reported to have been off in the Egypt area of Adair County. More information will be available on the results of the high winds and heavy rains as received.

Perfect rainbow over the historic Adair Courthouse

2020-01-13 - Columbia - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
This perfect rainbow appeared over the Adair County Public Square signaling that Saturday's rain, wind and thunderstorms were moving out of the area and everything was going to be alright. The arch seemed to end around the Courthouse Annex and Burton's Real Estate Office. Hope they all get back to work to find pots of gold.
