DOCJT Basic Training Class 506 Graduates

Richmond, KY - Thirty law enforcement officers from agencies across the state graduated Thursday from basic training at the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training.

The graduates of Class 506 completed 20 weeks of training, which consisted of 800 hours of recruit-level instruction. Major training areas included law offenses and procedures, vehicle operations, firearms, investigations, first aid and CPR, patrol procedures, orientation for new law enforcement families and the mechanics of arrest, restraint and control.

Basic training is mandatory for Kentucky law enforcement officers to comply with the state's Peace Officer Professional Standards Act of 1998. The Department of Criminal Justice Training provides basic training for city and county police officers, sheriffs' deputies, university police, airport police and others.



The agency also provides in-service and leadership training for Kentucky law enforcement officers and public safety dispatch training.

The Department of Criminal Justice Training is a state agency located on Eastern Kentucky University's campus. The agency is the first in the nation to be accredited under the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies' public safety training program designation. DOCJT also earned accreditation through the International Association for Continuing Education and Training in 2013.

  • Adam B. Fauver Greenville Police Department
  • Sean M. Fentress Grayson County Sheriff's Office (Academic Achievement Award and Recruit of Distinction)
  • Joshua K. Foster Brodhead Police Department
  • Trevor D. Foster Columbia Police Department (Most Improved Award for Physical Fitness and Defensive Tactics)
  • Matthew I. Frias Providence Police Department (Coordinator's Award)
  • Jeffrey C. Hartman McCracken County Sheriff's Office

Foster graduates DOCJT Basic Training

Officer Trevor Foster graduated from The Department of Criminal Justice Training in Richmond on Thursday, completing 20 weeks of basic training. Foster was hired in May of this year before being sent to DOCJT. While in the academy, Foster received awards in physical fitness and defensive tactics.

Deputy Chandler Staten graduates DOCJT Basic Training

The Adair County Sheriff's Office would like to congratulate Deputy Chandler Staten in his graduation from the Department of Criminal Justice Police Academy.

Sheriff Josh Brockman says, "We are very proud of Chandler and feel he will be a great asset to the Adair County Sheriff's Office and the people of Adair County."

On December 5th, 2019, Deputy Staten along with 29 other deputies and officers walked across the stage to receive their certificate from the Commissioner Alex Payne. Staten completed 20 weeks with over 800 hours of classroom instruction on topics such as, but not limited to Penal Code, Defensive Tactics, Emergency Driving, Firearms, and applying the laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Staten was joined Thursday in Richmond for his graduation by family, friends, and coworkers at the Sheriff's Office. Pictured with him are his wife Hailey Staten, top left, and with Sheriff Josh Brockman, and at right with Commissioner Alex Payne.
