Strong 2nd half propels LWC Men's Basketball to 79-69 victory

By Brady Budke

The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team defeated Simmons College of Kentucky by a final score of 79-69 on Tuesday evening at Biggers Sports Center.

The Falcons ended the game shooting an impressive 47.4 percent on 27-of-57 shooting, while the Blue Raiders shot 40.8 percent on 29-of-71 shooting.

Four Blue Raiders scored in double-digits, led by Reece Brooks with 21 points. Matthew Eldridge added a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Kel Stotts tallied 17 points, while Kameron Mack rounded things out with a 10-point night. For Simmons, Montrell Little scored a game-high 24 points while grabbing eight rebounds.

With an upset victory in mind, the two-win Falcons jumped out to a 25-19 first half lead with eight minutes remaining. Simmons continued to weather any potential LWC storm, rolling with a 35-27 lead into the half over the Blue Raiders. Lindsey Wilson struggled to gain any type of rhythm from the field in the first half, shooting just 26.3 percent on 10-of-38 shooting. Hot shooting helped elevate the Falcons, shooting 48.3 percent from the field on 14-of-29 shooting.

Brooks, Stotts, and Mack each led the way for LWC with six points apiece. Little led Simmons with 12 points, while Korey Mosley notched nine points

Needing to ignite a spark, the Blue Raiders came out of the half in attack mode, quickly eliminating Simmons eight point halftime lead to tie things up at 42 just five minutes in. However, the Falcons answered the call quickly, regaining a nine point lead a short two minutes later. LWC took the lead back at 6:12 on the clock with a Stotts three-pointer, and eventually snowballed that lead into a 79-69 victory, the ninth of the season.

The Blue Raiders are back in action on Saturday at Biggers Sports Center where they will battle Mid-South Conference foe Campbellsville (KY) at 4pmCT.
