LWC Women's Soccer falls to IN Wesleyan in NAIA 2nd round By Christopher Coombs Orange Beach, AL - The No. 8-seeded Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team fell to No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan 1-0 after a IWU goal midway through the second half in their second-round matchup at the Orange Beach Sportsplex. Indiana Wesleyan scored in the 63rd minute when Lauren Turner played a ball into the penalty area that Emily Carter one touched past Lindsey Wilson goalkeeper Jovana Ivanovic. Ivanovic kept the Blue Raiders in the game all night making three tough saves that steered quality scoring opportunities away from danger. Lindsey Wilson managed to outshoot Indiana Wesleyan 14-12 including 5-4 in shots on goal but the LWC offensive attack failed to put one past IWU goalkeeper Sam Castaneda. The Blue Raiders best chance to level the score came with 18 minutes to play when Alicia Thoresen fired a shot from well outside the penalty area. The attempt crashed off the crossbar and laid idle in front of the goal line before a pouncing Castaneda covered the near strike. Indiana Wesleyan controlled possession in their attacking third for much of the first half but the shots on goal were even at 2-2 after 45 minutes. The Blue Raiders generated most of the action in the final 45, outshooting IWU 9-4 including 3-2 in shots on goal. The Indiana Wesleyan goal in the 63rd minute proved to be enough. Lindsey Wilson closes out the season with a 16-4-1 overall record as they were both the Mid-South Conference regular-season and tournament champions. This story was posted on 2019-12-03 07:05:12
