LWC Men's basketball defeats Thomas in Battle at the Beach

Panama City, FL - The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team trailed only twice in their contest against Thomas (GA) at Harrison Field House as they rolled in an 89-68 victory during their first game of the Battle at the Beach.

In a game that saw two Blue Raiders (7-2) break the 20 point threshold and five players reach double-figures scoring, Lindsey Wilson was efficient from the floor shooting 49.1 percent. LWC shot 44.8 percent from beyond the arc and made 22-of-29 attempts from the charity stripe.



Reece Brooks paced all scorers in the game as he dropped 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field. His five rebounds match a career-high as he added five assists. Matthew Eldridge chipped in with 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting including a career-best five three-pointers made. He added five rebounds.

Payton Cundiff came off the bench for 16 points and six boards as Kameron Mack and Kel Stotts each tallied 10 points in the winning effort. Stotts had six rebounds and two steals while Dijbril Diagne set a game-high seven rebounds.

Tied at 11 with early in the first half Lindsey Wilson produced a 10-0 run to take a 21-11 lead but the Night Hawks (6-3) came charging back to trail by just one point with 6:20 on the clock at 27-26. Leading 29-33 late in the action LWC managed to close out the half on a 9-0 run over the final 2:27 to take a 13 point lead into halftime.

The second half was good to the Blue Raiders as they pushed their lead to as many as 32 points over the first ten minutes of play. The Lindsey Wilson effort over the span forced the Night Hawks into making just 3-of-14 shots and turning the ball over five times. LWC was 9-of-17 from the floor to open the half.

Leading 69-37, Lindsey Wilson saw their lead trimmed to as few as 18 points in the final minutes of action before taking the game by 21 at 89-68.

LWC held a 36-29 rebounding advantage as they limited Thomas to a 38.1 shooting percentage including a 34.6 mark from deep. The Night Hawks bench did most of their scoring as they finished with 43 points.

The Blue Raiders are back in action tomorrow at 7:15pmCT when they take on either Talladega (Ala.) or Voorhees (S.C.) on the second day of the Battle at the Beach.
