J.O.Y. Ministries kicks off annual fundraiser

From Maggie Coleman, Treasurer

Thank you very much to our community for the support that you have shown to J.O.Y. Ministries in the past. Many have donated generously to support our local Missions Week and youth mission trips, the emergency shelter, or the general fund that runs the Crisis Resource Center.

It is time for J.O.Y. to undertake our annual fundraiser for our general fund to continue these ministries. We have chosen the theme "Brighten Our Community with J.O.Y." and set a goal to raise $12,000 to cover our basic costs for the year. The theme invites donors to brighten Adair County with God's light through a financial gift, so that others may see our deeds and we may glorify God (Matthew 5:16).

In the past year, J.O.Y grew our outreach and opportunities for youth to serve and to receive God's love and care. We continued to offer Mission Week and our summer camp program for at-risk youth, but we also launched an after-school program to provide children in the community with food, academic support, life skills, and Bible-study.

We have funded the program this year through a one-time grant, but we need the community to support us for this program to continue. We built and opened a one-bedroom emergency shelter named Cally's House that is maintained by the Board and student volunteers. The Crisis Resource Center is currently working to provide Christmas gifts to struggling families, along with food, clothing, and basic furniture. All these efforts require funds, so we need our faithful supporters to join us once again!

If you would like to help support our efforts, please send a check to J.O.Y. Ministries, P.O. Box 114, Columbia, KY 42728 or give on-line at www.joy-ministries.org.

May the Light of the World brighten your life this Advent season!
