LWC Wrestling competed at the Patriot Open on Saturday By Christopher Coombs Williamsburg, KY - The No. 4-ranked Lindsey Wilson wrestling team opened their 2019-20 season on Saturday at the Patriot Open. Alex Caldwell would lose his first match of the day at 141-pounds on a 15-8 decision to Maxwell Kaufman. Falling to the consolation bracket he would receive a bye before pinning Mannie Murrer of Thomas More (Ky.) at 4:33. Caldwell's day came to a close when he was pinned against Seth Johnson of Marian (Ind.) in just 56 seconds. Johnny Lee, Bryce Hoffman and Cameron Butler all competed at 165-pounds for the Blue Raiders. Lee received a bye to open his day before he was pinned by Chandler Woenker in the first period at 1:39. His day came to a close against Isaiah Newberry on an 18-3 technical fall. Hoffman would lose his first match of the day when he lost on a close 3-1 decision to Raymond Williams. Falling to the consolation bracket Hoffman picked up a 15-2 major decision over Giran Kunkel of Indiana Tech before his day ended with a 7-5 loss to Micheal Long of Brewton-Parker (Ga.). Butler produced a 9-5 victory over Aniguis McIntyre of Midway (Ky.) and then fell to the consolation bracket when he was pinned 39 seconds into the second period of his match against Joseph Garner of Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.). Butler notched his second win on the day with a pin against Cameron Crislips of WVU Tech in just 1:06 before bowing out of the competition with a 10-8 decision loss against Micheal Long. Wrestling at 174-pounds Jonathan Bowling was pinned in his opening round match against Andy Dobben of Bellarmine (Ky.) with a pin during the first period. His day ended with a 19-3 technical fall against Austin Deffenbaugh. Raynel Brown was the final Blue Raider in action at the open as he narrowly won his opening match with a 2-1 decision over Kobe Hicks of Indiana Tech. Brown would fall to the consolation bracket of the heavyweight class with his 10-6 decision loss to Shamar Cofield. Brown won his second match of the day on a pinfall over Grant Brace of Cumberlands (Ky.) in 2:01 of the first period. His day ended with a medical forfeit during his next match against Korinthian Nabors of Lindenwood-Belleville.
