Alva Lena Wright, 95, Jamestown, KY (1924-2019)

Alva Lena Wright of Jamestown passed away on Friday, October 25, 2019 at the Fair Oaks Nursing Home. She was 95 years old.

The funeral service for Alva Lena Wright will be held at 1pmCT on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 N. Main St., Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Bobby Conner, Bro. David Coffey, and Bro. Randy Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Sunshine.

Visitation is requested from 10amCT to 1pmCT on Wednesday.


She was born October 10, 1924 in Russell County to the late James Wesley & Dona Stephens McGowan.

She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Hope Separate Baptist Church.

Survived by 6 children: Rita Smith, Columbia, Zula (Paul) Coomer, Berea, Ky, Judy (Don) Smith, Jamestown, Cathie Rogers, Jamestown, Alva Smith (Don Phelps) Russell Springs, James Smith, Louisville

Two step children: Jewell Hogan & Charlie Wright along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Leamer "Bud" Smith and Ensley Wright, Sr.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Gaye Goodin, three infant children; stepchildren Ensley Wright, Jr. and Alene Ashbrook; grandchildren; Jimmy Coomer, Angela York, and Shawn Wilhite.

Pallbearers: Don Smith, Don Phelps, Billy Shad Smith, Lee McQueary, Tony York, Chris York

Honorary Pallbearers: Paul Coomer, Timmy Ballou, Bryan Ballou, Jason Grant

Memorials are suggested to Gideons International and Hospice of Lake Cumberland. These can be made at the funeral home.
