Tebbs Bend 2nd annual Night Ride, Fri 25 Oct 2019 By Laura Jane Gupton The Tebbs Bend 2nd Annual Night Ride will be held this upcoming Friday, October 25, 2019. The event begins at 4;30pmCT/5:30pmET, with the first wagon departing at that time. The last wagon will depart at 7pmCT/8pmET. All wagons will depart from and return to Homeplace on Green River, 5807 New Columbia Road, Campbellsville. You will enter at the Homeplace and park here. Tickets are available at the Taylor Regional Archive Center for $10.00, or you may purchase your tickets at the Homeplace prior to the ride. There will be cookies, hot chocolate, and hot cider available, included with ticket purchase. Hot dogs, chili, chips and drinks will be available for purchase as well. All proceeds will go to the maintenance of the historical Tebb's Bend Battlefield site, as well as for educational programs. In case of rain, the event will be held on Saturday October 26. The battle was fought on July 4, 1863 near the Green River Lake in Taylor County. The battle is well-known to locals...or is it? Just how did such a small Union force, despite being outnumbered, successfully defend a vital supply line from the much greater Confederate force? Join members of the Tebb's Bend Battlefield Association on hayrides that will transport groups through this historical battle on Tebbs Bend Road. Hear stories that have been passed down for generations, learn how such a large force was defeated by so few, see where the soldiers who lost their lives were left until being moved to their place of honor at the cemetery. You may call (270) 789-4343 for more information. This story was posted on 2019-10-22 11:04:35
