WKU going smoke/tobacco-free on January 1, 2020 By Bob Skipper Bowling Green, KY - Western Kentucky University will become a tobacco-free, smoke-free campus beginning Jan. 1, 2020. The policy prohibits the use of all tobacco and vaping products on all properties that are owned, operated, leased, occupied or controlled by WKU. WKU has resources in place for those of the campus community who want to stop using tobacco and related products and will continue to expand cessation programs. More information about these programs, as well as the policy, can be found on the University's tobacco-free website. "At WKU, we strive to provide a safe and healthy environment and to promote a culture of health for our students, faculty, staff and visitors," Dr. Cecilia Watkins, Professor of Public Health and a member of the Tobacco-Free Taskforce, said. "We also strive to support research, which continues to show that tobacco use and second-hand smoke exposure are significant health hazards and serious safety concerns."
