September City Council highlights from the Mayor City of Columbia Mayor's Highlights from September, 2019 City of Columbia Mayor Pam Hoots shares a list of activities from the prior month at each Council meeting. At last night's October meeting, she provided the following list of projects working and/or completed for the month of September, 2019. Click 'read more' for the Mayor's list. September 2019 report By Mayor Pamela Hoots More sidewalks washed. Now located on Greensburg Street (both sides of the roadway). Approximately 20 loads of brush picked up during the month. The fence has been taken down at the city park. (will be working on installation of a different type of fencing). Cameras installation complete at Little League and City Park. (curbing vandalism). Basketball court at fairgrounds redone. New volleyball court completed at fairgrounds. Net hung. Tennis court resealed. Planning our 2nd food truck drive. Application for discretionary funding. Will be holding public hearing on funding request for police educational unit (LCADD will setup). Working on application/preliminary paperwork for the splash pad. Wood cut from old tree at fairgrounds. Distributed during day of caring. Gas line to the shopping complex on North 55 is complete. Gas line complete for project on Cane Valley Road. Gas line in process on North Highway 61. Water leak in restroom at Little League Park repaired. Mowing at Trabue Russell House and city park at fairgrounds. Trimming of trees on square. Representatives of city worked with LWC students on Malvena Farkle Day. Limbs picked up at fairgrounds. Wood was distributed during Day of Caring. Approximately 200 volunteers helped with projects in city and county on Day of Caring. Courts cleaned (tennis, basketball). One piece of handicapped equipment has come in. Should be installed within couple of weeks. Funding applied for work on street and two sidewalk projects. Ground breaking on sidewalks for handicapped and for the LWC project on Young Street/Lowe's Lane. Handicapped accessibility project on North 55 Road completed. Next on schedule is on corner of Burkesville Street and Fortune Street. We have two more businesses with ABC licenses. CVS and Ponzi's. A third is in-process. Nine audits were done by ABC in-house this month. Decoration committee met. Started on wreathes. Community investment team met. First piece of handicapped equipment arrived for city park (others coming in October). Basketball court restriped at city park. Had the 5th grade government class from the middle school in-house this month. Around 200 students. We had a group from the high school tour last week. In-process of fence being put in at city park.
