LWC Soccer travels to Shawnee State Tuesday

The No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team and the No. 9-ranked men's soccer team face Shawnee State (Ohio) on Oct. 8 beginning at 4pmCT with the women's matchup, followed by the men's matchup at 6pmCT.



The Blue Raiders women's soccer team (6-2-1, 2-0 MSC) is back in action after a 1-0 victory over Mid-South Conference competitor Thomas More (Ky.) on Saturday. Emelie Liljered picked up her first assist of the year in the 71st minute when Alicia Thoressen was able to score to clinch the MSC victory.

On the season, Lindsey Wilson has scored 17 goals, averaging just less than two goals a match (1.89). Sina Cavelti leads the team with six goals, while also recording three assists which ties Thea Birgerud to lead the Blue Raiders. Eveljn Frigotto has recorded three shutouts on the season and 49 saves, which ranks second best in the Mid-South Conference.

The Bears women's soccer team (4-6, 0-1 MSC) returns home after losing to Campbellsville (Ky.) 5-0 on the road Saturday. Shawnee State has nine players who have scored at least one goal, led by Eilidh Mchattie with four goals this season. Goalkeeper Hannah Bolender has garnered 44 saves while allowing 13 goals this season.

The Lindsey Wilson Men's soccer team (6-2, 2-0 MSC) continues conference play after shutting out Thomas More 6-0 at Walter S. Reuling Stadium Saturday. The Blue Raiders recorded 33 shots with 13 on goal, contrasting the Saints' five shots with only one on goal. Akean Shackleford and Oscar Dueso each scored twice, while Amin Fernouchi and David Ibrahimkadic tallied their first goals of the season.

Lindsey Wilson ranks sixth nationally in assists per game (3.75) and 10th in goals per game with 4.13. Eleven players have recorded at least one assist. Wendel Gabriel has a team-best six assists and ranks third in the MSC and 12th in the NAIA for assists per game (.75). Ten Blue Raiders have scored at least one goal, led by Shackleford and Dueso with 10 goals apiece. Nationally, Shackleford ranks second in goals per game (1.67) while Dueso ranks sixth (1.43). David Coffey has recorded two shutouts and 23 saves so far this season.

The Shawnee State men's soccer team (7-4, 0-1 MSC) was defeated by Campbellsville 3-1 on October 5. The Bears rank ninth in the NAIA in shots per game with 19.1. Kevin de Lange ranks sixth nationally in total points (32) and paces Shawnee State's offense with 51 shots, 28 on goal, and 12 goals. De Lange also leads the team with eight assists. From the goalkeeper position, Corbin Betz has recorded 24 saves while allowing eight goals and Kade Tomlinson has recorded 25 saves while allowing nine goals.
