Afterschool camp offered for students by J.O.Y. Ministries

By Maggie Coleman

This past month, J.O.Y. Ministries kicked off its first afterschool program, Camp H.O.P.E. Afterschool, under the direction of LWC senior Erika Squires and held every Monday and Friday at Columbia United Methodist Church.

We currently have 12 middle school students enrolled in a variety of classes, including, dance, karate, theater and cooking. Our cooking class is an especially big hit! In the second part of the semester we will be enrolling elementary students.

J.O.Y. Ministries would like to thank Kosair Charities board member, Robert Flowers, for introducing us to Kosair Charities’ grant program. Kosair Charities, along with a grant from the Methodist Church Conference, provided the funds to begin our Camp H.O.P.E. Afterschool program. Thanks to our LWC volunteers as well!
