Flags at half-staff on Sunday to honor fallen firefighters By Nicole Burton Frankfort, KY - In accordance with the proclamation by President Donald J. Trump and Public Law 107-51, both American and state flags at public office buildings will be lowered to half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019, in honor of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service. The 38th National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service, held in Emmitsburg, Maryland on Sunday, will honor 92 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2018 and 27 firefighters who died in the line of duty in previous years. All individuals, businesses, organizations, and government agencies are encouraged to join in this tribute of lowering the flag to "honor and remember the heroic firefighters and first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice to save and protect our citizens, homes, and communities."
