LWC Cycling competed at LWC Cycling Showdown By Christopher Coombs The Lindsey Wilson cycling team competed at the LWC Mountain Bike Showdown this past weekend. With the results from the showdown, the Blue Raider take claim to a third-place overall standing in the Southeastern Collegiate Cycling Conference. The Blue Raiders kicked off the weekend's events with short track cross country. During the men's A race, Phillip Christmas raced his way to a sixth-place finish, scoring 309.58 points as Grant Wilson tallied 350.93 points to finish in 12th and Tyler Junkins took 17th. In the women's B race Kristine Kohl scored 556.67 points to finish in second. The Lindsey Wilson women dominated the track during the dual slalom A race as they nearly swept the top six spots. Elida Beeman took second with 350.72 points, missing out on first place to Veronica Laughton of Lees-McRae (N.C.) who scored 340.95 points. Sumiko Yuki, Emily Harris, Korie Gilbert and Cassidy Ellis all finished just behind, crossing the finish line in third, fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. The Blue Raider men also had a good showing during the dual slalom A race as Angelo Loskota and Dustin Hammond finished in first and second. Laskota captured 333.58 points as Hammond scored 340.46. Amai Rawls just missed the podium in the dual Slalom B race after coming in fourth. During the women's A cross country race Yuki crossed the finish line in 29th as Kohl would finish in second during the women's B race. In the men's A race, Wilson managed the best finish by an LWC rider as he claimed 10th. Junkins finished just behind in 12th as Christmas took 15th. The Blue Raider women had another strong showing, this one during the women's downhill A race as they took five of the top-10 spots. Harris finished a Lindsey Wilson best in third place with 392.22 points. Beeman took fifth, Ellis came in seventh, Gilbert in eight and Vidak rounded out LWC in tenth. Yuki competed in the B race where she finished in second place. Loskota earned his second podium finish of the weekend during the men's A downhill race as he finished in a tie for second with Max Beaupre of Lees-McRae. Both riders finished the event with 185.32 points. Hammond competed in the B race where he finished first. Next up for the Blue Raiders is a trip to Auburn, Alabama on Oct. 5-6, where they will compete at Auburn University. This story was posted on 2019-10-01 15:40:58
