Santa Fee Baptist recruiting members back home

By Linda Waggener

Minister Sammy Hughes said he and David Mitchell will share duties until a pastor is brought in. He and Mrs. Lilly Lasley Duvall are the only two remaining members of Santa Fee. Many have passed away or moved away.

Their goal is to restore membership by connecting with families and friends and recruiting them.

Sammy has spent all his life in the Flatwoods of Adair County except for military, and college years at Jefferson Community College, and a short teaching job in Owensboro.

He is a graduate of Lindsey Wilson College and was talked into getting his teaching credentials by then superintendent Kermit Grider.

He received his ministry degree from Campbellsville University.

He has been a teacher in Adair County public schools for over 20 years.

Sunday School at 10amCT and the Church service is at 11amCT.

Directions: Take Hwy 61 South 1.3 miles from Columbia, over the Cumberland parkway overpass, then turn left on Wheeler Hill Road, Old Hwy 61. Santa Fee Baptist Church is on the right in about a mile, near the intersection of Jones Chapel Road and Wheeler Hill Road.
