LWC men's soccer upset No. 10 Spring Arbor 4-2 By Grace Blomstedt The No. 17 Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team upset No. 10 Spring Arbor 4-2 in their home debut. LWC served as the aggressors most of the match, producing 11 shots on goal compared SAU's three. The Blue Raider offense was led by freshman Oscar Dueso and senior Renan Ramos. Dueso recorded nine shots, five on goal, and two goals. Ramos had four shots, three on goal, and two goals of his own. Both scored a goal in each half. In the sixth minute Rainer De Jesus crossed the ball in to Vitor De Lima Schelbauer who went up for the header. The ball bounced between the defender and De Lima Schelbauer and fell to Oscar Dueso's feet. Dueso took one touch and scored across the keeper to the far side of the goal. Dueso nearly scored again in the eighth minute after receiving a cross from eight-yards out that was blocked away by Cougar goalkeeper Christopher Banfi. In the 23rd minute, the Blue Raiders took a 2-0 lead off of a Renan Ramos goal. Wendel Gabriel played a ball forward to Ramos who dribbled from the middle third, all the way to the top of the 18-yard box and slotted it passed the Cougar's keeper. Spring Arbor scored on a corner kick when Jacob Crull sent a ball to the near post and Cole Russell headed passed Lindsey Wilson keeper David Coffey in the 36th minute. Bruno Henrique played one off to Ramos in the 49th minute and Ramos was able to find the back of the goal. Less than a minute later, Dueso struck with his second goal of the night from deep. Spring Arbor's Jacob Crull responded with the Cougar's second goal in the 51st minute on a penalty kick to the lower left corner. In the 69th minute, a ball chipped over the Cougar defense from Dueso nearly allowed De Jesus to score but Banif was able to make the save. Dueso almost found the goal for the third time of the night, but he hit the post in the 78th minute. The Blue Raiders and Cougars battled for the final ten-minute stretch of play, but neither team controlled offensive position to attempt a shot. The Blue Raiders are back in action on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 2pmCT at Walter S. Reuling Stadium, 151 Holloway Drive, Columbia, KY. This story was posted on 2019-09-08 07:38:34
