CPD: Traffic stop leads to firearms charge

On Friday evening, August 30, 2019, the Columbia Police initiated a traffic stop with a 2001 beige Pontiac on Burksville Street.

Upon making contact with the operator of the vehicle, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana on the operator's person and inside the vehicle.

K9 Matt signaled within the car after being used and the subject also admitted to having some marijuana on his person.


Adrian Morales, 32, of Columbia was taken into custody and charged with numerous traffic and drug related charges. Morales was additionally charged with giving Officers a false name and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon; a class C felony.

Officer Evan Burton was the arresting Officer. He was assisted on scene by Officer Jordan Dean and Deputy Josh Durbin.
