Letter: Weakest justice system for abusers

Debbie Sinclair writes:
I really am not at all surprised at this, 19 years ago I adopted my oldest daughter after taking care of her at my job. She was shaken and hurt by her biological father while her biological mother knew this was happening and did nothing to stop it. The abuse began when the child was only days old.

She has 2 dislocated hips, 7 broken ribs, handprints on her chest and a huge knot on her head, all this before she was 3 weeks old. Her father received an 8 year sentence and mother received a 1 Year sentence but yet my child got a life sentence with blindness, cerebral palsy, brain damage, a tracheotomy, feeding tube, seizures and requiring care 24/7. She functions at about a 6 week to 3 month old baby and is 21 and wears diapers.

Father got out in 4 years since he had "good behavior." Mother was out in 6 months. These horrible people were 27 and 24 and probably have had more kids!

Even with all this my daughter wakes up smiling and goes to bed smiling. Kentucky has the weakest justice system in the country so these abusers will continue this abuse because they have nothing to fear. My sweet baby will never get free of her life sentence but yet her abusers live their life as if nothing ever happened. Food for thought. Sorry for the rant but people need to know these things or laws will never change! --Debbie
