KSP: Semi driver arrested on drug charges

On Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at approximately 12:58pmCT, Post 15 received a complaint of a possible stolen tractor trailer travelling on the Cumberland Parkway. Trooper Allen Shirley located the vehicle in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Columbia.

Trooper Shirley made contact with the driver, 55 year old Lawrence Johnson of Indianapolis Indiana, who appeared to be impaired. Officer Evan Burton with the Columbia Police Department and canine partner, Matt, assisted. Trooper Zach Scott and Officer Burton searched the vehicle after the canine alerted on truck tractor.

A large amount of a white crystal like substance believed to be methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia were located.


Johnson was arrested and charged with DUI 1st (aggravating circumstance), possession of a controlled substance 1st degree 1st offense (methamphetamine), possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and 392 federal safety reg- driving of motor vehicle.

Johnson was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail.


NOTE: An arrest is not a finding of guilt. An individual placed under arrest is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.
