Letter: 10 Different Ferry Rides in KY

Lee Murphy writes:
FYI, There are 10 different ferry rides you can take in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The Anderson Ferry in Boone County is privately owned, The Green River Ferry and the Houchin Ferry in Edmonson County are Federally funded. The Augusta Ferry in Bracken County, The Cave in Rock Ferry in Crittenden County, The Reeds Ferry in Butler County, The Rochester Ferry in Butler-Ohio County and the Turkey Neck Bend Ferry in Monroe County and the Valley View Ferry in Fayette-Jessamine Counties are State funded. All of the Ferry rides in Kentucky are well worth the trip to ride and very enjoyable. --Lee

Campbellsville resident William Hazelwood poses on the Dorena-Hickman Ferry that travels between Dorena, MO and Hickman, KY.

Wikipedia says of the Dorena–Hickman Ferry , "It provides the only direct road connection between the two U.S. states' mainlands; however, they are indirectly connected at Cairo, Illinois via U.S. 60 & U.S. 62 over the Cairo Mississippi River Bridge and the Cairo Ohio River Bridge, both just above the mouth of the Ohio River. Nonetheless, since the Ohio is the historic division between the upper & lower parts of the Mississippi, this ferry is the farthest-upstream crossing of the Lower Mississippi; the two Cairo bridges are the farthest-downstream crossings of the Upper Mississippi and the Ohio, respectively."
