Back-to-School special event will help children in need The City of Columbia, along with the Columbia Police Department, will be sponsoring an event on Thursday, August 1, 2019 to recognize children at a "Back To School," event. It will be held starting at 11amCT and will feature activities, giveaways, and food for children and their family members. The event, which will be held in the back parking lot of the city will feature hot dogs, giveaways, and activities. "We are pleased that Air Evac will be sponsoring hot dogs for the families," said Pamela Hoots, Mayor. Booths with giveaways or information is planned from T.J. Health Columbia, Cumberland Family Medical Centers, Signature Healthcare at Summit Manor, Parent Teacher Organization, Mimi's Ice, and Three Trees Church. The Columbia Police Department will be setup with safety tips and local School Resource Officers. Tee-shirts are being sold with the proceeds going to the backpack food program in the school system. Shirts will need to be ordered by Monday, July 22. The program ensures that children have food on weekends; with backpacks sent home on Fridays from school resources.
