Hit and Run Collision Leads to the Death of 8 year Breckinridge Boy.

Hardinsburg, Ky. (July 13, 2019) - Kentucky State Police Post 4 Troopers responded to a hit and run collision resulting in a fatality in Breckinridge County Saturday morning. On July 13, 2019 at approximately 11:31amCT, KSP Post 4 received a call from the Breckinridge County Sheriff's Office requesting KSP investigate a vehicle versus pedestrian collision near the 12,000 block of KY259 south.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2009 Pontiac Torrent was traveling north on KY259 south when the vehicle struck an 8-year-old male child that was standing at the edge of the roadway getting mail from the mailbox.

The operator of the Torrent left the scene and was located by Trooper Brandon Brooks while he was in route to the collision scene, less than 13 minutes after KSP was notified.

Trooper Brooks located the vehicle, matching the description given by witnesses, traveling south on KY737 (Lilac Road) near the Breckinridge/Grayson County line.

The operator was identified as Bradley Mattingly (35) of Leitchfield and he was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and reckless homicide. The Breckinridge County Coroner's Office pronounced the child deceased at the scene. KY259 south was temporarily closed while troopers reconstructed the collision.

Mattingly was lodged in the Breckinridge County Detention Center. KSP was assisted at the scene by the Breckinridge Sheriff's Office, Grayson County Sheriff's Office, Breckinridge EMS and the Breckinridge County Coroner's Office. The accident is still under investigation by KSP Trooper/Reconstructionist Brandon Brooks.
