John Wesley (J.W.) Spears, 80, Burkesville, KY (1938-2019)

J.W. Spears of Burkesville, KY passed away on Thursday, June 27th, 2019 at Cumberland County Hospital. He was 80 years old.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 04, 2019 at 1pmCT at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home, 304 N. Main Street, Burkesville, KY, with burial in Leslie Cemetery.

The family requests visitation on Wednesday, July 03, 2019 from 3pmCT until 9pmCT at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home.


J.W. was born on August 09, 1938 in Cumberland County, Kentucky to the late Dewey and Cora Pearl Branham Spears.

He was a former employee of American Testing and Engineering Corporation and Arco Mining. He was a member of Waterview Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four siblings, Aldon(Mary Kate)Spears, Ruth(Calvin Coolidge)Humphrey, Margoline(Junior)McMahan and her second husband Steve Holmes, and one infant sister, Betty Spears.

Survivors Include:
  • One Brother- Everet Keith Spears and his wife Wanda of Burkesville, KY
  • Two Sisters- Jewell Vandagriff of Manchester, TN and Barbara Melton and her husband Ruel of Burkesville, KY
  • Special Family- Gail Cain of Burkesville, KY, Cinda Kay Hurt of Bowling Green, KY, and Patty Rush of Ocala, FL, Jerry S. Rutherford of Burkesville, KY, Chris Huckleby of Indiana, Erica Cain and Dr. Taylor Smith
  • A host of other relatives and friends
