ACSO: Columbia man arrested for string of burglaries

By Sheriff Josh Brockman
Adair County Sheriff's Office

On Saturday, June 8, 2019, the Adair County Sheriff's Office started receiving complaints from Oak Grove Road and Taylor Ford Road in eastern Adair County of properties being broken into. The Sheriff's Office intensified the patrol in the area and at around 2amCT, Deputy Brandon Hitch met a subject on an ATV on Oak Grove Road. Deputy Hitch attempted to stop the person, who immediately fled. The pursuit went off road and across multiple fields. The deputy eventually lost the subject when he entered into the woods.

Early the next morning, around daybreak, a resident of the area saw a suspicious person coming from the woods and alerted the Sheriff's Office of the area he was in. Chief Deputy Justin Cross and Sheriff Brockman proceeded to the area and located the subject at an abandoned farm house off Christine Road.

33 year old Wesley Pitcock of Columbia was taken into custody. The Sheriff's Office located multiple stolen items, ranging from chainsaws, weed trimmers, air compressors, jump boxes, miscellaneous tools, a golf cart, and a stolen 2002 silver Mercury Mountaineer SUV that had been reported stolen from Horse Cave, KY.

The investigation revealed that at least 4 separate residences had been stolen from in that area over 24 hours, and all stolen property has been returned to its rightful owners .

Pitcock was charged with:
  • 1- Burglary 4 counts
  • 2- Receiving stolen property over 10,000 dollars
  • 3- Theft by Unlawful taking
He will also be facing charges for fleeing and evading police, 1st degree, stemming from the pursuit earlier that morning.

The investigation is being continued by the Adair County Sheriff's Office

NOTE: An arrest is not a finding of guilt. An individual placed under arrest is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.
