Women's Outdoor Track and Field earn 7 national standards

The Lindsey Wilson women's outdoor track and field program finished second at the Last Chance Meet hosted at Blue Raider Stadium on Wednesday.

The Blue Raiders gathered 79 points for their performance and earned a total of seven national qualifying standards; five of them being A-cuts and the other two were B-cuts. LWC also recorded three individuals with first-place finishes.


Safia Bright earned a national A-cut for her first-place finish in the 200-meter dash. Bright posted a 23.93 time earning 10 team points. Alexia DeHaven-Boyd took the 400-meter hurdles title with a 1:03.10 performance. With the finish, DeHaven-Boyd earned herself an A-cut as all as scored 10 points for Lindsey Wilson.

Oreatha Hurt finished in first in the triple jump event, posting a distance of 11.71 meters. Hurt's performance earned herself a nation A-standard and 10 team points. Tatianna Williams and Aneesha Harris both competed in the event as well. Williams finished in fourth with a B-standard worthy 11.46-meter distance for five points. Harris placed sixth with her distance of 11.10 meters to chip in three points.

Hurt and Williams both competed in the long jump scoring the Blue Raiders 11 points with a third and fourth place finish, respectively. Hurt finished third with a national A-cut performance of 5.79 meters with Williams following in fourth place with a distance of 5.66 meters, earning a B-cut.

The 4x100-meter relay team comprised of Marie Ninamou, Bright, Harris, and DeHaven Boyd placed second in the event with a time of 46.81, good for an A-cut and eight team points.

As for the throwing events, Paige Pettell competed in both the discus and hammer throw. Pettel finished in third in the discus with a distance of 41.41 meters scoring six points. During the hammer throw, Pettel scored four points with a throw of 45.20 meters, finishing in fifth.

Brianna Laws finished in sixth place in both the discus and hammer throw, Chipping in a total of six points. Laws finished the discus with a distance of 33.81 meters and closed out the hammer throw with a performance of 37.66 meters. Sina Cavelti placed third in the javelin throw with a finishing distance of 34.93, scoring six points.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action as they head to the NAIA National Championships on May 23-25 in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
