ACSO: Over 60lbs of pills collected on Take-Back Day

By Sheriff Josh Brockman
Adair County Sheriff's Office

The Adair County Sheriff's Office participated in the National Prescription Drug Take Back program on Saturday, April 27, 2019.

The Sheriff's Office was set up in the shopping center on Jamestown street from the hours of 10am to 2pm on Saturday. In just four hours, over 60 pounds of pills were collected. These pills will be properly destroyed. This will also reduce the risk of ground water pollution, which can result when pills are flushed.

The program is sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration with a goal of removing opioids and other medicines that are unused from our community's homes, where they are vulnerable to misuse, theft, or abuse by family members and visitors including children and teens.

Sheriff Brockman's Office was assisted by members of the Adair County EMS and the Adair County Judge Executive, who all came by to help collect and sort the medicines. The Sheriff's Office extends a huge "Thank You" for their help and "Thank You to the community" for making the day a success.
