Huge turnout for Plow Days at HGR

Click headline for story with photos.

By George Kolbenschlag

More than 25 horse and mule plow teams turned the soil for an estimated 2000+ folks who attended Saturday's Homeplace on Green River Plow Day/Spring Festival.

There were also 25+ antique tractors and more than 70 food and arts and crafts vendors, exhibitors and folks demonstrating everything from lard rendering to Whittling. There were hay rides, barrel train rides, a petting farm, live music in the Homeplace show barn, colonial reenactors sheep shearing and a host of other family entertainment.

Planning is already underway for the September 7 Fall Heritage Festival at Homeplace on Green River.

A close up of one of the plow teams at Saturday's Plow Days/Spring Festival. The first spring festival was the result of an invitation to host the well-established tractor show that was first organized in 1997 by Adair Countian Lewis Garrison. The tractor show was held each year at Mr. Garrisons farm, but its success made it hard to host so many people and tractors. When Mr. Garrison asked if Homeplace would host the show, the Homeplace Board enthusiastically agreed, and the Spring Festival at Homeplace joined the long-established fall heritage festival.
