50 Years: a letter from LCADD Executive Director McGaha

LCADD has always maintained a professional staff that has one purpose - to work for the betterment of our counties and cities in a positive manner that will improve economic growth and enhance the lives of current and future residents.

Darryl McGaha, LCADD Executive Director

Reaching the milestone of celebrating the 50th anniversary for Lake Cumberland Area Development District (LCADD) is an exciting occasion and the result of great effort and commitment of a great number of individuals. The LCADD came into being on April 23rd, 1969 with one employee. Within 13 months, the agency expanded to four employees dealing mainly with economic development. Today we currently have 88 employees within seven departments who deliver various services that benefit the residents and local governmental entities with our 10 county area. We continue to look for other resources that would enhance the quantity and quality of services that can be delivered through LCADD.

Many debts of gratitude and thanks go to the County Judge Executives, Mayors and Citizens members that comprise the Board of Directors who guide and oversee the actions of LCADD. Over 50 years many have served in these capacities and have laid the foundation and lead to LCADD being where it is today.

LCADD has always maintained a well-trained and professional staff that has one purpose and that is to work for the betterment of our counties and cities in a positive manner that will improve economic growth and enhance the lives of current and future residents. Many thanks to all former and current employees for their service.

LCADD has been lead internally by five former Executive Directors. Pat Bell, John Phelps, William Parson, Jr., Stuart Carman and Donna Diaz. These five lead LCADD for the first 48 years and through their leadership and forward thinking LCADD has grown to what it is today. Although two of those have passed, many thanks to the remaining three that have been great mentors to most of the current staff and set an example for myself to build upon.

It is humbling to be the current Executive Director, especially during this special celebration of our 50th anniversary, but also I am reminded each day of what it took to bring LCADD from what was in 1969 to its current status. We must always stay vigilant to keep delivering services in a professional manner to all that we serve and strive to make LCADD more involved and offer more services in the future to continue the growth and economic vitality of our service area.
