Hoa Asks, "what's Our Focus?" This article first appeared in issue 35, and was written by Linda Waggener. Heart of Adair held a quarterly meeting recently where about twenty leaders focused on statistics presented by the Kentucky Long Term Policy Research Center which demonstrate how we're doing in areas from education to job futures. One subject of local importance is that National Forestry Association statistics show America is logging its forests now at the fastest rate since 1907. And Kentucky is second to the most active state in that movement. That might be extra scary for Adair Countians because, coincidentally, 1907 was the year of the killer Gradyville flood. Clear- cutting on hills above the river was cited as a possible reason why the flood happened. This story was posted on 2001-06-15 12:01:01
