LWC Baseball set to host No. 4 Georgia Gwinnett

Lindsey Wilson baseball is set to host No. 4 Georgia Gwinnett at Egnew Park, Lindsey Wilson Sports Complex, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY, on Friday and Saturday for a three-game series. Friday's action is slated for 4pmCT with Saturday's doubleheader scheduled for 1pmCT.

The Blue Raiders (7-25, 2-10 in the Mid-South Conference) are returning to Columbia after visiting No. 24 Bryan (TN) on Tuesday. LWC dropped the game 18-8 playing in just seven of the nine innings that were scheduled.


Derek Marrufo leads the Blue Raiders with a .337 batting average and is one of the four Lindsey Wilson batters that are batting over .300 for the season. Joining Marrufo are Seth Price (.327), Austin Rayno (.325), and Steven Calderon (.321).

Rayno has tallied the most hits this season (38) while managing 25 runs, 15 RBI's, six doubles, and three home runs. Calderon has produced a team-leading 26 runs while recording 36 hits as well. Calderon has also been able to notch 27 RBI's, nine doubles and seven homers to lead the Lindsey Wilson squad.

The Blue Raiders have tallied six student-athletes with double-digit RBI's this season with two batters above 20 in Calderon (27)and Price (21).

From the mound, Lindsey Wilson has recorded a team ERA of 8.88 during 244.1 innings of play. Ethan Escue has been on the bump the most for the Blue Raiders, throwing for 37.0 innings of work. Escue has managed a 6.08 ERA and has tallied 22 strikeouts. Jose Diana continues to be the strikeouts leader for LWC with 30 strikeouts in 26.2 innings this season. Besides Escue and Diana, three other Blue Raider pitchers have recorded 20+ strikeouts this season.

No. 4 Georgia Gwinnett (33-8) visit Egnew Park after defeating William Carey (Miss.) in a two-game series at home. The Grizzlies were able to win game one 8-1 and game two 11-1.

Georgia Gwinnett has outscored their opponents 336-159 and have a .330 batting average as a team. The Grizzlies have also knocked out 37 homers in their 41 games played. GGC has six student-athletes with 20+ RBI's along with 12 Grizzlies that have managed 20+ hits.

Cam Coursey leads the team with a .437 batting average while producing 62 hits, 46 RBI's, and 41 runs this season.

From the mound, the Grizzlies own a 3.14 ERA as a team with Hunter Dollander holding the lowest ERA on the team (1.91). Gregory Loukinen has thrown the most for Georgia Gwinnett, pitching for 67.1 innings this season. Loukinen has tallied 78 strikeouts and owns a 2.27 ERA.

The Blue Raiders were swept by Georgia Gwinnett to open the season back on February 8-10 in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The Grizzlies defeated the Blue Raiders 18-0, 10-3, and 8-3 over the three-day series.
