LWC Baseball heads to Bryan and Union for Tue/Wed matchups

The Lindsey Wilson baseball team hits the road to take on Bryan (TN) on Tuesday before facing Union (KY) on Wednesday. Tuesday's action is slated for a 4pmCT start from Senter Field in Dayton, TN with Wednesday's game in Barbourville, KY set for a 2pmCT start from Carey Stadium.

The Blue Raiders (7-24, 2-10 in the Mid-South Conference) are returning to play after dropping three games on the road against MSC opponent Shawnee State (Ohio) over the weekend.


LWC fell in game one 9-7 on Friday and fell 13-2 and 5-4 in two seven-inning games on Saturday.

Derek Marrufo continues to lead the team with a .341 batting average. Marrufo has also connected for 28 hits, nine RBI's, four doubles and three home runs.

Leading the hits category, Austin Rayno has managed 36 hits this season. Rayno has scored 23 runs and has managed three home runs this season while batting .313.

Steven Calderon is the team leader for runs scored (25), runs batted in (27), home runs (7), and doubles (9). Calderon has also tallied 35 hits while batting for a .321 batting average.

As for the Blue Raiders on the mound, Ethan Escue leads the team, pitching for 37.0 innings this season and recording a 6.08 ERA.

Jose Diana leads the team with 30 strikeouts this season, pitching for 26.1 innings and has recorded a 9.23 ERA.

Bryan (26-11, 12-6 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference) hosts the Blue Raiders after sweeping AAC opponent Union over the weekend.

So far this season, Lake Burris leads the Bryan offensive efforts with a .325 batting average while recording 40 hits, 44 RBI's, 43 runs and 18 home runs.

Bryan has tallied nine student-athletes with double-digit RBI's this season, all but two have recorded 20+ RBI's.

Stephen Chamblee has seen the most time on the bump for the Lions, pitching for 47.0 innings. Chamblee has managed a 4.40 ERA and has recorded 45 strikeouts, just five behind the team leader Joseph Cuomo with 50.

Dalton Ross has the lowest ERA on the team (2.86) in 34.2 innings worth of work, throwing 42 strikeouts during his time on the mound.

Lindsey Wilson last met Bryan at Egnew Park back on April 3, where the Lions defeated the Blue Raiders 8-5. With the win, Bryan broke the tie to take the overall series 4-3.

Union (18-17, 8-10 AAC) are returning home to take on the Blue Raiders after the sweep on the road against Bryan.

Nick Shumaker leads the Bulldog batting efforts with a .450 batting average and leads the team with 54 hits on the season. Shumaker has also managed to record 34 RBI's and 26 runs scored.

Sinjin Shoop leads the team scoring 42 runs this season while Daniel Neal has notched a team-leading 40 RBI's.

As for the Union pitching squad, AJ Villa leads the efforts from the bump, pitching for 58.0 innings. Villa has a 3.41 ERA and has tallied 62 strikeouts while picking up four wins this season.

Union defeated Lindsey Wilson 14-11 back on Feb. 27 when they visited Egnew Park. Union was able to hold off the Blue Raiders' late surge in the game to take home the victory.
