Harpes Head includes story of murder of 12-year-old

By Mike Watson

Writer Lanny Tucker of Greensburg will be the speaker at the next meeting of the Adair County Genealogical Society, April 1, 2019 at 5pmCT in the Adair County Public Library, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY. Tucker will discuss his recent novel, "Harp's Head."

The historical fictional book takes place in Greensburg during the Civil War, with a flashback to Big Harp's real-life capture, execution, and decapitation in 1799.

John Trabue, the twelve year-old son of Columbia founder Daniel Trabue, was one of thirty people murdered by the Harps in a rampage across Kentucky.

Tucker has written two history books pertaining to Green County, "History Among Us" and "Osceola, the Town the River Claimed." A third book, "History of Green County, Kentucky," should be available soon. And from 1994 until 2015 Tucker wrote, produced, occasionally directed, and acted in 26 plays ranging from religious to historical and historical fiction. The popular "Highway to Heaven" was performed eleven times in five counties, including the Female Penitentiary at Pee Wee Valley, and in Alexander City, Alabama. Subjects of the historical plays included Jane Todd Crawford, and Abraham Lincoln's "Other Mary," Mary Owens of Green County.

The Adair County Genealogical Society meets on the first Monday night of the month (with some holiday exceptions) at 5pmCT in the Adair County Public Library, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY 42728. For more information call 270-384-2472.
