Defendant accused of abusing multiple Casey Co. children

Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear's office assumed prosecution of the case in June 2018, and worked with numerous local agencies to secure the indictment.

By Crystal Staley

Frankfort, KY - Attorney General Andy Beshear announced a 29-count indictment of a man previously living in Casey County on charges related to the alleged sexual assault of minors.

On March 25, a Casey County grand jury returned the 29-count indictment against Jason Alexander Reusser, 44, on first, second and third-degree rape, first and second degree sodomy, incest, criminal abuse, and intimidating a participant in the legal process in the first degree. The charges are Class A, B, C and D felonies.

The case involves the abuse of multiple children. The charges span from August 1, 2007 up to the date of the defendant's arrest, January 19, 2012.

Beshear's office assumed prosecution of the case in June 2018.

"Thanks to the assistance of multiple agencies, including the Casey County Sheriff's Office, the Department of Community Based Services, Cumberland Valley Children's Advocacy Center, Lake Cumberland Children's Advocacy Center and Adanta Sexual Assault Resource Center professionals, we were able to secure this indictment," Beshear said. "Together we will continue to seek justice in this case and support each victim."

In 2016, the original indictment in the case was tried by another prosecution office and resulted in a hung jury. The 2019 indictment is a superseding indictment.

Reusser is expected to be arraigned in Casey Circuit Court at 10amET on April 8.

A charge is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Since taking office Beshear and his team in the Office of the Attorney General have been committed to seeking justice for victims and protecting children from predators.

Beshear said that Kentuckians have a moral and legal duty to report any instance of child abuse to local law enforcement or to Kentucky's Child Abuse hotline at 877-597-2331 or 877-KYSAFE1.
