Mayor's Report to City Council March 4 2019

At the March 4, 2019 regular monthly meeting of the Columbia City Council, Mayor Pam Hoots distributed the report of activities, a new tradition she started with her first Council meeting, that had taken place in the weeks since the February meeting. Her list follows:

a. We are looking at the following for possible blacktopping in the spring. Parking lot (behind Municipal Building), Rule Street, Patricia Trail, Center Street, Taxus Street, Heskamp Street, Little League Drive, Mack Street (part), Bowen Street, Page Street, Butler (part) Street, and Marshall Street.

b. Potholes to be repaired by street department: Joe Johnson Little League Park, Reed Street, College Park Street, Montgomery Street, Wright Drive, and Westlake Drive.

c. Lights repaired on public square, Sandusky/Oak Street, and Hudson Street.

d. Precision Concrete was in town to look at work completed on East Guardian, East Frazier, Grissom, Wall, and Merchant. We are looking at areas around the square circumference next.

e. The gas line extension on Burkesville Street has been completed and is in operation.

f. We have awarded non-competitive quotation for the Greensburg Street project (sidewalks) to Pyles Excavation.

g. We have received encroachment permits for the handicapped accessibility projects throughout downtown. Getting easements signed and then will advertise for bids.

h. Adam Cravens joined us on Monday, February 18, as a Columbia City Police Officer. He has prior experience with the Adair County Sheriff's Office. His grandfather was a former officer in the 1960s. Back at work today.

i. City Facebook Page continues to grow and has become a source of information. Over 1000.

j. Rhonda and I met with Kentucky Utilities in reference to their service renewal for the city.

k. The new investment committee had their second meeting; and, are progressing on several items.

l. John Harris has joined the Columbia City Police Department and is the newest SRO Officer assigned to the local school system.

m. Radar is in all vehicles. Officers have written several citations in addition to courtesy notices.

n. Signs on right of way have been picked up. Around 300 signs were picked up by street department.

o. The following items were at Trabue Russell. Back porch support block, light fixture cleaned, curtains taken down, front door hardware replaced, filters checked, light switch repaired.

p. Little League Park: doors ordered for concession stand, new water line for restrooms out of commission for around five years; also new toilets, new trash cans that will be placed and chained, new electric hand dryers, painting, fence row cleanup. Crystal lime being put down by Street Dept. and Parks and Recreation Dept. and complete a new ditchline. Jim Blair ditchline being cleaned out this month by Street Dept.

q. Building of press boxes being looked at and backstop at field #2.

r. Several bags of trash picked up through town. 23 on Young/Hurt Streets, 20 on Highway 55 North.

s. Ordered more flags for bicycles/motorcycles.

t. New motion detectors at Trabue Russell, fairgrounds, and basement.

u. 70 new bulbs replaced in city hall. (768 total bulbs). Looking at LED lighting conversion, looking at incentives and rebates available t municipalities.

v. New ceiling tiles replaced in restroom/downstairs.

w. We have talked to state about guardrail at Walmart and bank on Burkesville Street.

x. A senior worker through Goodwill Industries will be joining us (no cost). y. Met with Constellation (gas provider) after receiving gas statement that was off from estimate. (received over $14,000 credit). We had an approximate three hour conversation on telephone and four hour visit from their sales representative. z. Landscaping and cleanup around city hall being done. Work being completed by Parks and Recreation.
aa. Cruiser purchase in budget was completed. Over $15K below budget.
bb. Street sign removed due to 911 request. Done to ensure appropriate response time by emergency services. cc. We've had several groups calling and visiting wanting to work with us on projects for the city. (no cost/volunteers).
