CHFS invites artist proposals for L&N Lobby Artwork

Artists interested in submitting proposals for commissioned art should go online to: chfs.ky.gov/agencies/dcbs/Pages/artists.aspx for more specifics about the request for proposals.

By Doug Hogan

Frankfort, KY - Today, the Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) announced that it will offer up to $5,000 for an art installation that will welcome visitors to the L&N State Office Building at 908 West Broadway in Louisville. This call for artist proposals is supported by a grant from the Kentucky Arts Council.

The L&N State Office Building in Louisville is the largest customer service oriented facility in the state. It serves as the operational hub for many agencies, with almost 600 employees in the building and around 150 working out of nine Neighborhood Places. The large majority of the L&N Building houses the Department for Community Based Services (DCBS), which offers support for almost all of the state's human services and healthcare programs, including Adoptions and Foster Care, Medicaid, SNAP, Adolescent Services, Child and Adult Protective Services, and other critical services.

"On an average day, about 300 families come through our doors and are served by the dedicated staff in the building alone," said Adam Meier, CHFS Secretary. "Plus, the building is home to various case management workers who serve and protect the people of Jefferson County. This art should serve as a testament to their tireless efforts and important work."

The installation shall embody the essence and spirit of the mission of CHFS - which is to deliver quality services that enhance the health, safety, and wellbeing of all people in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

The area scheduled to house the installation of the artwork will be a high profile and prominent location within the building's main entry. The artwork may be one comprehensive piece or a group of pieces. An estimated 10,000 people pass through this public space on a monthly basis.
