Letter: Plaster lath and drywall

Doug McCammish writes:
Most homes older than 70 years will have plaster lath in the walls. Drywall was invented in 1916 (look it up), but was only sold as tiles for a while before they figured out how to make it in sheets. Drywall in homes did not become generally used until the 1950's.

My dad used drywall in the house he built in 1952-53 and did the drywall himself because there were so few contractors who knew how. Can you imagine constructing a lath and plaster wall today? --Doug
