LWC Baseball set to host Midway and Union Tue/Wed

The Lindsey Wilson baseball team is set to host Midway (KY) and Union (KY) on Monday and Tuesday in their 2019 home opener at Egnew Park, Lindsey Wilson Sports Complex, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY.

The two-day action is set to begin on Tuesday at 1pmCT with a doubleheader against Midway before playing a single game against Union on Wednesday at 3pmCT from Egnew Park.

The Blue Raiders (0-7) are returning to action after a tough 7-3 defeat to Asbury (KY) on Friday.


Steven Calderon leads the hitting efforts for LWC, batting .360 on 25 at-bats. Calderon has tallied nine hits, two runs, two doubles, one home run, and five RBI's this season.

Calderon leads the team in all of the previously listed categories except for runs. Dalton Wells is the runs leader for the Blue Raiders, recording five this season.

The Lindsey Wilson pitching corps has managed a 12.42 ERA. Brandon Wilson has pitched the most for the Blue Raiders, throwing for 11.1 innings. Wilson has thrown for a 14.29 ERA while also recording 13 strikeouts this season.

Midway (4-6) visits Columbia, Kentucky after splitting a two-game series to Georgetown (KY) on Friday.

Tyson Orr leads the Eagles with 12 hits while hitting for a .400 batting average on 30 at-bats. Haupt has connected for seven RBI's as well as one home run this season.

Kurt Paldino leads the team in RBI's with a total of nine. So far this season, Midway has recorded five student-athletes that have hit one home run each.

Gus Garrison leads the team from the mound with a 2.35 ERA. Garrison has given up 12 hits, 10 runs, and has struck out 22 batters.

The Blue Raiders and the Eagles have never met on the diamond before. Midway is in just their third season of play. MU finished their inaugural season in 2017 with a 28-30 record that included a River States Conference Championship as well as an NAIA Opening Round appearance. As for 2018, the Eagles finished the season 26-24.

Union (8-3) returns to action after sweeping Bethel (Ind.) 7-4 and 7-6 on Monday.

Nick Shumaker leads the Bulldogs with a .429 batting average connecting for 12 hits this season. Shumaker has also notched 16 total RBI's for an average of 2 per game.

AJ Villa leads Union from the mound. Villa has pitched for 19.0 innings so far in 2019, recording 26 strikeouts and averaging just over 12 strikes per game.

Wednesday's matchup is the 48th installment between the two programs. Union holds a 27-20 record against Lindsey Wilson. Last time these two met, the Blue Raiders lost to the Bulldogs 6-2 on the road back on March 29, 2017.
