LWC Baseball set for season opener at Georgia Gwinnett By Clayton Barefield The Lindsey Wilson baseball team travels to Lawrenceville, Georgia to open their 2019 season in a three-game series against No. 3-ranked Georgia Gwinnett Friday-Sunday at the Grizzly Baseball Complex, 1030 Collins Hill Road, Lawrenceville, GA. The Blue Raiders open the series on Friday beginning at 3pmCT with game two on Saturday beginning at 1pmCT. The series is set to finish on Sunday at NoonCT. Last season, Lindsey Wilson went 22-26 and finished 8-9 in the Mid-South Conference before falling in both games at the MSC Tournament. The Blue Raiders are returning 13 student-athletes from last year's squad. Cody Andreychuk is set to begin his first season as the head coach for the Blue Raiders. Andreychuk led Lindsey Wilson as an assistant coach last season. Ethan Utley joins Andreychuk as an assistant coach for his first season with the Blue Raiders. Steven Calderon returns as the Blue Raiders' leader in hits (56), batting average (.352) and runs batted in (33) from last season. Georgia Gwinnett (1-2) hosts Lindsey Wilson after opening the season in a three-game series against Southeastern (Fla.) on Friday and Saturday. The Grizzlies lost game one of the series 4-6 before taking game two 6-4. GGC would then fall 5-8 in the final game of the series. Cam Coursey led the Grizzlies with seven hits while .538 batting average for the series. Nick Barnes tallied three RBI's while Gregory Loukinen recorded six strikeouts. Georgia Gwinnett finished the 2018 season 50-12 making a deep run in the national tournament. The Grizzlies fell to national runner-up Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) one game from the championship round. The Grizzlies hold a 6-3 record over the Blue Raiders with the last three-game series going to Georgia Gwinnett in a sweep at the Grizzly Baseball Complex last season.
