Shirley Sue Brown, 82 Russell Springs, KY (1936-2019)

Shirley Sue Centers Brown, age 82, died Monday, January 14, 2019 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

The funeral services for Shirley Sue Brown will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at NoonCT at the First Baptist Church of Russell Springs, 392 KY-80, Russell Springs, KY, with Pastor Ryan Coffey and Pastor Caleb Shirley officiating. Special music presented by Lydia Wainright and Jennifer Cox.

Interment will be in the Union Cemetery (Gosser Ridge), Russell County, KY.

Visitation is requested from 9amCT until NoonCT on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Russell Springs.


She was born March 13, 1936 in Harlan, Kentucky to the late Jason Centers and Grace Gilreath Centers and grew up in Pleasant View, Ky (Whitley County).

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard on August 3, 2015. Seven brothers and sisters (Elsie, Junior, Margie, Kathleen, Kenneth, Wilma, and Clyde), along with several nieces and nephews, also preceded her in death.

Shirley and Richard were married on June 30, 1956 and had a wonderful and devoted marriage for 59 years. In addition to being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Shirley was a born again child of God and a member of First Baptist Church of Russell Springs. Following many years of working at various companies and careers, Shirley found her true professional calling in becoming a Mary Kay consultant in 1981. She had a very successful career, winning many cars and prizes through the years and becoming a Senior Sales Director. Shirley had a genuine love for people and helping them.

Survivors include her beloved family, daughter Terrie (Beckham) Wilson of Russell Springs, Ky.; two granddaughters, Abigail Wilson and Alexandra Wilson, both of Russell Springs, Ky; nephew Roger Ball of Russell Springs, Ky who was a true blessing in her last year or life; a dear friend, Skeeter Eubanks of Louisville, KY; a dear friend and sister-in-law, Nadine Centers of West Chester, Ohio; and sister, Patsy Shilts, of Milford, Ohio. She is also survived by a host of family and friends, and the family pets she had a deep fondness for, Fluffy, Zoe and Harley.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted at the First Baptist Church or Bernard Funeral Home, Russell Springs, Ky for the Gideons International, Alzhemer's Association, or the Sugarfoot Farm Animal Rescue (860 Sparksville Road, Columbia, KY 42728).
