Marion inmate starts fire inside jail By The Lebanon Enterprise The man who police believe planned to carry out a mass shooting at an industry in Springfield in November attempted to start a fire at the Marion County Detention Center on Dec. 29, according to Marion County Jailer Barry Brady. Lebanon native Matthew Smith, 37, attempted to set a fire in the day room of the maximum security cell on Saturday, Dec. 29, Jailer Brady stated in a written message to the Lebanon Enterprise. According to Brady, Smith used two bed sheets, wire from headphones and toilet paper and sparked the electrical outlet behind a television.
