LWC Basketball opens conference play at Cumberland

The Lindsey Wilson men and women's basketball teams open up Mid-South Conference play on Saturday against Cumberland (TN) at Dallas Floyd Recreation Center in Lebanon, TN.

The Blue Raider women are set to tip off at 2pmCT with the men set to play afterwards at 4pmCT.


The No. 18-ranked women (9-4) return to play after a tough 88-54 road loss to future MSC opponent Thomas More (Ky.) on Thursday night. Jynea Harris led the Blue Raider offense scoring 18 points with Reagan Turner close behind with 16 points. Gerda Paulauskaite led the team with three blocks while J'Nayah Hall led the team with five rebounds.

Reagan Turner continues to lead the Blue Raider offensive efforts this season with an average of 17.4 points per game and three assists per game. Turner is shooting 45.2 percent from the field and 82.1 percent from the free-throw line so far this season.

Gerda Paulauskaite continues to place in the top-10 in NAIA Division I in blocks per game (2.42) and total blocks (29). Paulauskaite also leads the team with an average of 6.92 rebounds per game for a total of 83.

Cumberland (4-8) hosts the Blue Raiders after defeating Fisk (Tenn.) 78-66 on Wednesday at home. The Phoenix are led by Carli Codner-Pinto who averages 12.2 points per game while shooting 39.4 percent from the field.

Saturday's matchup is the 35th meeting between the two programs. Lindsey Wilson holds a 19-15 advantage over Cumberland. The last meeting between the two sides resulted in a 77-47 road victory for the Blue Raiders back on February 1, 2018.

LWC men's basketball (8-6) returns to action after a 58-57 victory over Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) on Sunday, December 30. The Blue Raiders shot 37 percent from the field with Shakaris Laney notching 16 points on the night. Matthew Eldridge chipped in with his first double- double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

The Blue Raiders are ranked fifth in the NAIA in field goal defense, holding opponents to 37.5 percent shooting. LWC is ranked in the top-20 in total steals (118) and total rebounds per game average at 43.4.

Cumberland (6-4) returns to action following a loss to Philander-Smith (Ark.) 86-85 on December 14. The Phoenix are shooting 49 percent from the field and 66 percent on free-throws. Cumberland is ranked sixth in the NAIA in steals per game, with 10.6. Cumberland is led by Andrew Rogan, who averages 16.5 points per game while shooting 54 percent from the field.

Saturday's matchup marks the 45th meeting with Lindsey Wilson leading the overall series at 33-11. The last meeting occurred during the 2017-18 season in which LWC lost to Cumberland 100-65.
