CU mourns death of former Tiger Courtney Clifton Bivins By Jordan Alves, sports information director SHAWNEE, Kan. -- Campbellsville University is saddened to report that a former Lady Tiger basketball player, Courtney Clifton Bivins, was a part of a murder-suicide on Sunday afternoon in Shawnee, Kan. The police report obtained from the Shawnee Police Department states: Bivins, 27, was shot and killed by Joshua Mobley, 34, who then shot and killed himself. Known as Courtney Clifton while at Campbellsville, she was a nurse in the outskirts of Kansas City and actively pursuing a career field in anesthesiology. She graduated from Campbellsville University in May 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and minor in Chemistry. Clifton transferred to Campbellsville University after playing her freshman year at Western Kentucky University. She was a spot player for WKU after playing in 19 games, including a 22-point performance in her collegiate debut, hitting 6-of-9 3-point baskets. Before playing at WKU, she was a prep star at Lexington Christian Academy in Lexington, Ky. While at Campbellsville University, she was one of the best shooters to come through the program. She scored 1,492 points, including 528 during her senior campaign and made 80 3-point baskets. She currently ranks 14th on the all-time list in scoring. "Our basketball program is close knit," said head coach Ginger High Colvin. "Anytime any of our former or present players, their families or friends are hurting, we come together. "We mourn the loss of Courtney, and we join in prayer for everyone affected by her passing." During Clifton's senior year, she ranked 14th in the NAIA with 80 made 3-point baskets and 18th in total scoring with 528 points. She dropped a career-high 38 points vs. Lindsey Wilson College on Feb. 25, 2013, including 8-of-16 from behind the arc. "We are deeply saddened by the news of this tragedy," said President Dr. Michael V. Carter. "Courtney was fun to watch on the court, and I remember her talents fondly during her time as a Lady Tiger. We ask that everyone involved with Campbellsville University keep the Clifton and Bivins families in their prayers during this time."
