Mission trip to South Africa results in five baptisms

Some of the attendees walked up to eight km to be in the nightly service. The writer's time was split between the medical mission team and providing health related information every night prior to the sermons for 15 nights.

By Diane Wallace

After spending 17 days in the Pretoria, Guateng province of South Africa, jet lag is finally behind me! The flight of 16 hours was primarily over the Atlantic Ocean and I prayed fervently the plane had enough fuel for the entire flight.

I was one of 32 volunteers with the It Is Written mission team. This trip was organized at the invitation of the South African Conference of Seventh-day Adventists to our leader, John Bradshaw. My time was split between the medical mission team and providing health related information every night prior to the sermons for 15 nights.

The site assigned to my partner and I was in one of the poorest areas. The 60+ in attendance each night consisted of about 20 young people (ages 6-23) and elderly up to 90 years. Some of the attendees walked up to eight km to be there. At the close of the Crusade five individuals from our site were baptized.
